I'm Your Friend

Since it was Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, we talked about him, and his message to be friends with everyone, even if they are different. We looked at pictures of different boys and girls all over the world. Some had different color of eyes, hair and skin. Some wore glasses, different clothing and some even had wheelchairs. We learned that it is important to be friendly to everyone, no matter what they looked liked. We read a book called "The Bully" and decided that it was not fun to be a bully or have a bully in school. We made "Friendship Necklaces" with small pictures of the children in our class. We have been using a lot of our fine motor skills, like lacing different lengths of beads, and rolling and pinching modeling clay. This is helping us to use a pencil correctly so we can practice writing our names and letters.
For the #9, we colored, then cut out a pig to make a "Piggy Bank" to hold nine coins in. We matched the coin with the number of dots that were glued to the back of our pigs. We have been practicing counting things and matching the number with it. We are starting to see the number dots and quickly recognize what number it is without counting them. Playing with dice is a great way to practice counting and number recognition.
Last of all today, we practiced printing our name on a fun "wipe" board, that we got to take home. With a washable marker and wet wipe or damp paper towel, we can practice printing our names daily!
